If Indira, Rajiv Gandhi can do it, why can’t PM Modi inaugurate Parliament House: Hardeep Singh Puri
Puri said, ‘In August 1975, the then PM Indira Gandhi inaugurated the Parliament Annexe and later in 1987, the Parliament Library was inaugurated by PM Rajiv Gandhi. Explain that during a joint session of Parliament in the new building, more than 1,200 MPs can stay.
There has been an uproar over the inauguration of the new Parliament building by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri criticised the Congress’ objection to the inauguration of the new Parliament building by PM Narendra Modi. He said that in the past, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi had inaugurated the Parliament Annexe and the Library respectively.
Puri said, ‘In August 1975, the then PM Indira Gandhi inaugurated the Parliament Annexe and later in 1987, the Parliament Library was inaugurated by PM Rajiv Gandhi. If the head of the Congress government can inaugurate it, then why can’t the head of our government.
Puri tweeted that despite criticizing the new Parliament building and questioning its necessity, many of them favored it but by not implementing it, the Congress President and other qualified people are misrepresenting an article of the Constitution.
But the Congress accused the Centre of flouting constitutional limits and demanded that President Draupadi Murmu should inaugurate it instead of the Prime Minister.
The Hardeep Singh Puri ministry had taken up the construction work of the building, the foundation stone of which was laid by PM Modi in December 2020. It can accommodate over 1,200 MPs during a joint session of Parliament.
