FIR filed against person who uploaded video claiming Amul milk contains urea, conspiracy to defame brand

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against a person in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar city for allegedly claiming in a Facebook video that Amul milk contains urea. An official said an FIR was registered at Adalaj police station on Tuesday but no arrests have been made. The complaint states that the video is intended to damage the reputation of the Amul brand.

The complaint in this regard was filed by Ankit Parikh, senior sales manager of Amul fed, the manufacturing unit of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which owns the Amul brand, he said.

Parikh alleged that Laxmikant Parmar, a resident of Gandhinagar, had defamed the Amul brand in a Facebook video by claiming that its packaged milk contained urea. The complaint said that the video also claimed to have been confirmed by a government laboratory.

The video was aimed at damaging the reputation of the Amul brand.

An FIR has been registered against Parmar under sections 500 (defamation) and 505 (statements causing public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code, Inspector SR Muchhal said.

GCMMF, the apex body of 18 milk cooperatives in Gujarat, has registered a sales turnover of Rs. 55,055 crore in 2022-23.
